Geography
To the north lie the coastal lagoons of San Ignacio and Scammon, which are breeding sites and gray whales are protected by the federal government. In the same area is located the Vizcaíno Desert, a world biosphere reserve. It also has some islands in the Pacific Ocean (Natividad, Magdalena and Santa Margarita) and others in the Sea of Cortez: San Marcos, Coronado, Carmen, Montserrat, Santa Catalina, Santa Cruz, San Diego, San Jose, San Francisco, Partida, Cerralvo Holy Spirit. Its main peaks are the Sierra La Laguna, Las Tres Virgenes Volcano and Mount Salsipuedes.
